A Guild Grows in Brooklyn:

A Decade of Quilting



2003 Quilt Show - Quilters' Guild of Brooklyn April 25 & 26, 2003 Bishop Ford High School

Celebrating our 10th year, this show was a dazzling display of our diversity, creativity and joy of quilting.


Show Events

Raffle Quilt
- The Sum of Its Parts, created by members and lovingly coordinated by Gurusurya Khaur Khalsa.


Quilt Display - bed quilts, wall hangings, miniature quilts, antique quilts, children's quilts, memorial quilts, challenge quilts. Click here to see many of them!

Challenge Quilts
- 10 members expressed themselves with challenge fabric designed by member Sandy Benjamin Hannibal.

Member's Boutique - Nearly 30 talented and sales-worthy members created a multitude of items for sale.



Vendors – Area vendors offered many opportunities to shop and shop and shop!

Small Raffle – Wonderful goodies were won each hour by some lucky ticket-holder.

Demonstrations – in the midst of our quilt display, members offered mini-workshops on a wide variety of topics.

Lectures – notable quilters offered presentations demonstrating their work and techniques:
• Gurusurya Khaur Khalsa: “Inspiration, Intuition and Creativity”
• Sandy Benjamin Hannibal: “African American Quilters”
• Margaret Cusack: “Illustrating the Fabric of Life”
• Ed Johnetta Miller: “Community, Life and Art”
• Diane Rode Schneck: “Trunk Show”

Silent Auction – 25 group round-robin and individual quilts were auctioned during the show, raising funds for the Carroll Gardens Neighborhood Women. This worthwhile and local organization has provided free adult education classes to low-income residents of South Brooklyn for 20 years.
