Anita Grossman Solomon to lead our 2018 Lenni Abel Workshop

The 2017 Lenni Abel Workshop will take place on January 20, 2018 after our guild meeting and will feature Anita Grossman Solomon presenting a trunk show of her recent quilts, followed by a free, guild-wide workshop.
Anita is offering a special program: “Project Dovetail,” which was initiated by Michael Miller Fabrics after Hurricane Harvey hit Houston. Anita will teach her 8” Jewel block, one of her latest shortcut block techniques, and Michael Miller will be providing special “Project Dovetail” fabrics for the workshop. For more information, see
The traditional Jewel block, is made fresh and ‘modern’ using Anita’s unique and deviously clever method. The block is pre-sewn, cut apart, and then re-sewn. The blocks will be accurate yet sewn without measuring. You’ll marvel at the steps you’ve skipped!  Each 8” block is sewn from two rectangles of fabric and Anita’s magic. Literally. You’ll take the two pieces of fabric together to the machine.
At our December meeting 60 members signed up, but there is no limit on attendance to either the trunk show or workshop.
Anita’s block pattern will be given to each participant so additional blocks may be made at home for yourself or to make more Dovetail blocks. If you can’t make the workshop, the pattern is one of many available for download in Anita’s online Craftsy class “Quick Techniques for Classic Blocks: Wrenches, Stars & Twists.” Anita has provided this link to get a half-price discount to the online class:

Attendees should bring:

  • Sewing machines (OK to share)
  • Cutting mats and rotary cutters
  • Pressing boards/mats and irons
  • Straight pins
  • Light neutral thread
  • Rectangular ruler at least 10.5” in length
